Too Expensive to Get Wrong

Two bookshelf speakers above a shopper’s chat message, “Will it work with what I have?”, and the reply “Let’s find out.”

Your blocker might be “Will it work with what I have?”

Think about the last expensive thing you almost bought online. You liked it. You could live with the price. The reviews looked good.

Then the doubt: “Wait... will this actually work with what I have?”

Now you’re opening another tab. Reading. Looking for a forum that actually answers your question. Eventually, you close the laptop.

The merchant sees a visitor who didn’t convert. They can’t see the question that stopped you.

For technical or expensive products, these questions matter

Imagine shopping for a $1,200 pair of speakers. You’re happy to spend the money, but you want to know:

  • Will they work with my amp?
  • Are they too much for my room?
  • What am I getting over the less expensive pair?

A spec sheet might contain the answers. But you still have to know what those specs mean for your setup. That’s a lot to ask of someone who just wants good sound in the living room.

A great specialty-store salesperson knows how to help. They ask what you already own. How you’ll use it. What matters to you. Then they explain the trade-offs. That’s the kind of answer that earns trust.

Making product expertise available while the customer decides

This is what we think about at Chatsi: “How do we make a merchant’s product expertise available while the customer is still deciding?”

We’re building AI sales agents that help shoppers ask questions in their own words, compare options and get guidance grounded in the merchant’s product information. The goal is simple: help people buy something they’ll be happy they bought.

Bottom line: Before offering another discount, it’s worth looking at the questions your shoppers are struggling to answer.

Sometimes “too expensive” really means “too expensive to get wrong.”
